Weapons for training
In Aikido, no one fights empty-handed, but weapons are also used.
The weapon in the hands of the master will be any object, whether a stick, a knife or a chair that turned up under his arm.
However, in practice, aikido studies the traditional types of aikido.
The following types of weapons are used for aikido training: bokken, katana (yay-to), jo, tanto, sinai, bo, wakidsazi.
Katana is a traditional Japanese long sword. In modern execution, the katana is a bit like a Cossack checker.
The main differences: an elongated handle for a two-handed grip, no top, sharp end, adapted to stabbing blows, a small bend.
Yay-to are zinc non-sharp specimens designed to demonstrate the technique of Japanese sword.
Bokken - a sword for trainings made of a tree. Introduced by the famous sword master and swordsman M. Musashi to avoid injuries during training.
Bokken is longer than a combat katana. It is made of especially strong breeds of wood - an oak, a beech, a hornbeam.
Bokken are of three types:
Men's bokken -thick handle and blade, straight guard (thickened).
Women's bokken - has a pronounced curve rather light sword.
Training bokken - equipped with a thickening at the tip, designed to give the wooden blade the balance of a real weapon.
Jo - used to inflict stab wounds, blows to the body and top-down attacks. Perfectly blocks the opponent's attack. The master will be able to kill the opponent with just one blow of Jo.
Bo it is a long and high stick. It differs from the jo by length (from 128 cm) and design. Some Bo were sheathed with metal, which in combination with the bamboo core allowed to effectively repel attacks and inflict precise diseases or fatal blows.
Tanto - A short Japanese knife. Tanto is not used as the main weapon and is considered solely as an auxiliary. A wooden analogue is used in training.
Sinai is a bamboo sword.

Wakitsazi -shortened Japanese sword. The shape resembles a katana, and often fully corresponds to the main design weapon.
In ancient Japan, Vikazashi was made by the same craftsman as the katana. Both weapons went out together. Wakidzashi is not used in the basic training program.
